Planetary Expansion

Progression

To expand to new planets, the player needs to first build a launch pod (Facility). This pod facility includes one colony ship. There are a maximum of 6 planets.

This ship can be sent to any of the remaining planets. The player can fill this ship with resources, soldiers, support personnel, followers etc to establish a new base in orbit above the new planet.

  • The facility is built under the BaseManager. On completion, the game notifies the player they can now load the colony ship via the colony screen.

  • Once the ship is launched, it will take time for it to reach its destination.

  • When the base is in orbit, players must successfully complete a beachhead mission. If they are unsuccessful they will need to retry.

  • If the player fails the first mission and the local inhabitants are aggressive, there is a chance the inhabitants will invade their base. This will trigger a base mission. On failure of this mission, the player loses the new base.

Sending A Probe

Before a colony ship can be sent to another planet, it needs to be scouted. The player would first need to produce a probe. Once made, the player selects which planet to send the probe to. The player can send a probe to each planet before even building a colony ship to make the best decision or just launch the colony ship after the probe arrives at the first planet.

Build a Colony Ship

Before going anywhere a colony ship must be built. Once built, the player can add expansion slots. Colony ship has a particular layout. Each comes standard with required slots (prerequisites)

Standard colony ship layout. More configurations will be available in DLCs/Updates
  • Blue are expansion slots - the player can build a small number of extra modules to take more soldiers, weapons etc to the next planet to help establish the base.

  • When the player adds sections, the colony ship is delayed in building. Player also needs resources to fill the slots - i.e with troops, humans etc

Loading Colony Ships

Players can decide if they want to take their crack team of tactical troops or the young recruits by individually loading them in the menu. Tactical troops must be unassigned from other craft before they will appear on this screen. Think of 'Aliens Covenant' where only a handful of the ship's complement are actively engaged.

Players can also choose which resources and in what amounts they wish to take to start the new base. and begin operations. Later players will be able to transfer between bases but this costs a lot, so best to plan ahead.

Launching the Colony Ship

  • Player can click ‘launch’ to send colony ship to planet if ship exists and is ready.

  • Takes some serious time to reach the planet

  • Travel time is determined by the planet's distance from the launch planet.

Establishing a Base in Orbit

  • Once the colony ship arrives at the planet, the player must conduct a beachhead mission to establish a foothold on the planet's surface.

  • If they are unsuccessful they will need to retry. The player has three attempts before losing the colony ship and the planet.

  • If the player fails the first mission and the local inhabitants are aggressive, there is a chance the inhabitants will invade their base. This will trigger a base mission. On failure of this mission, the player loses the new base.

Base Established

  • On the success of any of the above missions, the player now has a base deployed and can operate like any of their other bases.

  • Each planet requires an orbital base to access the planet
